What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is a new way for artists, businesses, churches,
independent journalists, media companies, organizations, or other entities to
distribute content periodically to individuals by way of audio or video files.
As with other communication vehicles, most podcast creators, or podcasters,
develop a podcast around a topic of interest, personality, genre, brand,
program, or mission, that makes it unique.
Podcasts are distributed through podcatcher software, podcast directories, and
podcaster websites. Today, many podcasters offer their listeners or viewers new
podcasts once a week, while some podcasters release new episodes once a day, or
even multiple times a day.
People listen or view podcasts through desktop media players, podcatcher
software, MP3 players, or through other digital audio devices. Podcast episodes
range in length from three minutes to 60 minutes or more, with the majority of
them within a 30-minute timeframe.
